Message From the President

Dear HCEA Members,

I’m thrilled to share how busy and energized HCEA has been over the past few months! Last week, we gathered for our Bi-annual Conference, and it was such a rewarding experience to connect with so many of you. The event was inspiring, impactful, and a true testament to the strength of our community. A heartfelt thank you to our members, speakers, and sponsors whose support and participation made the conference such a success.

We are also excited to unveil our new website at www.hcea-info.org and announce our partnership with CORE Association Management. These milestones mark important steps forward as we continue to strengthen our community and resources. In addition, we're in the process of transitioning from a 501(c)6 to a 501(c)3, a change that will bring meaningful benefits to our members and further support our mission.

Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be a very exciting year. We are launching our new Engagement Lounge series, with the first session scheduled for January 14, 2026, featuring Aysha Jawed from the Kennedy Krieger Institute. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn, connect, and grow together.

A few quick reminders:

  • Please take a few minutes to participate in our benchmarking survey—your input is invaluable as we work to better serve you.
  • Nominations are now open for 2026 President-Elect, Member-at-Large, and Membership Engagement Committee Chair. Don’t miss the chance to help shape the future of HCEA! Nominations close on October 31st.
  • Thank you for being a valued member of HCEA. Your involvement and support make everything we do possible, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead.

Warmly,

Leah Hazel

President, HCEA

2025 HCEA Conference Review

HCEA was thrilled to welcome members and colleagues to Philadelphia this September for our Bi-annual Conference. The event was a resounding success, bringing together an outstanding turnout of healthcare professionals for two days of learning, collaboration, and networking.

From dynamic keynote presentations to engaging breakout sessions and valuable peer-to-peer discussions, the conference offered fresh insights and practical strategies that attendees can take back to their organizations. The energy and participation from our members truly made this year’s gathering memorable.

A special thank you goes to our generous sponsors—Mytonomy, KidsHealth, WebMD Ignite, Wolters Kluwer, and HouseCall VR—for their support in making this event possible. Your partnership helps us continue to deliver high-quality programs and resources to our members.

We look forward to carrying this momentum into our upcoming initiatives and can’t wait to see you all again at our next HCEA event!

2025 Benchmarking Survey

Sharing best practices through its bi-annual member survey!

The HCEA conducts a survey every two years to better understand the state of patient education at health care organizations. This survey allows members to gain insight into resources typically needed to effectively manage patient education and to learn best practices and strategies from other members. It also serves as a great tool for those interested in joining the field of patient education by learning from other patient education leaders. The survey will open in November and will remain open until mid- December. Please share your experience to enable HCEA to continue our leadership role in the patient education community.

HCEA Transition to a 501(c)(3) Organization

We’re excited to share that HCEA is in the process of transitioning from a 501(c)(6) to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This change marks an important step in aligning our structure with our mission to serve, educate, and support our community more effectively.

As part of this transition, our Articles of Incorporation have been officially amended, and our bylaws are currently under review to reflect this new designation. Once finalized, these updates will help position HCEA for greater opportunities in fundraising, grant eligibility, and community impact.

We’ll continue to keep members informed throughout this process and share updates as they become available. Thank you for your ongoing support as HCEA moves forward into this exciting new chapter!
